VILLA PARK

Councilman Robert E. McGowan will propose a resolution for City Council consideration Jan. 26 that would support a new nonprofit group’s efforts to preserve the historic Villa Park Elementary School buildings. McGowan said it is important that the city show support for the preservation effort. The buildings--dating from the early 1900s--are the only remaining historically significant facility in the city.

The proposed resolution would also ask that the Orange Unified School District delay demolition of the buildings so Villa Park Elementary Restoration Corp. can come up with alternatives.

McGowan said the resolution would also help get grant money and donations for restoration work, estimated to cost as much as $1.4 million.
