Elton Brand said it was the “greatest game” he ever played in, but he had to watch the last 10 seconds of regulation and all of overtime from the bench.

No. 2--ranked Duke beat No. 8 St. John’s 92-88 Sunday at New York in a game in which seven players fouled out and Bootsy Thornton of the Red Storm (16-4) scored a career-high 40 points.

“That was just unbelievable, said Brand, who had 16 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocked shots for Duke (19-1) before fouling out. “When we went down in overtime I thought we might lose, but we still had guys who came through for us.”
