A resolution that urges Orange Unified School District not to demolish the historic Villa Park Elementary School buildings and supports a nonprofit group’s effort to preserve them was unanimously adopted by the City Council this week. Mayor Bob Bell said that since the structures are the only historic landmarks left in the city, it’s important to save them: “It’s just something of [the city’s] history that we’d like to preserve.”

The recently formed Villa Park Elementary School Restoration Corp. is working on ways to restore the structures. One resident spoke against the resolution, proposed by Councilman Robert E. McGowan. The resolution will be forwarded to the school board.
