* Emma Kerlins; Longtime Resident

Emma Kerlins, a homemaker and Newbury Park resident for 33 years, died on Tuesday. She was 101.

She was born Emma Sprogis in Latvia on May 19, 1898. In 1923, she married Henry Kerlins. The family moved to New York in June 1950.

She moved to Newbury Park in 1966 to be closer to her son Victor after her husband died.

Victor Kerlins said his mother enjoyed gardening and that their patio is covered with flowers that she planted. In particular, she loved fuchsias.

Emma Kerlins was a member of the Latvian Lutheran Church.

In addition to her husband Henry, she was preceded in death by her daughter Zigrida Wilkinson. Kerlins is survived by her son Victor, who lives in Newbury Park.

Services are scheduled at 9 a.m. Saturday at Pierce Bros. Valley Oaks Chapel in Westlake Village. Pierce Bros. is handling the arrangements.
