Small Plane Lands on Foothill Blvd.; No One Injured

In the fourth such incident in the San Fernando Valley in two weeks, a single-engine plane made an emergency landing on a city street Thursday after developing electrical problems just after takeoff, authorities said.

No injuries or damage was reported when the Cessna 152, which was headed to Bakersfield from Burbank Airport, set down at 11:18 a.m. on Foothill Boulevard at De Garmo Avenue about 2 miles northeast of Whiteman Airport, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Bob Collis.

The pilot, who identified himself as Russ McNees, aborted his flight because of electrical difficulties, said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Jerry Acosta.

The exact reason for those problems were under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.

The plane was carrying one passenger, who was not identified, Acosta said.
