Plane Makes Emergency Landing on Street
SYLMAR — In the fourth such incident in the San Fernando Valley in two weeks, a single-engine plane made an emergency landing on a city street Thursday after developing electrical problems just after takeoff, authorities said.
No injuries or damage were reported when the Cessna 152, which was headed to Bakersfield from Burbank Airport, set down at 11:18 a.m. on Foothill Boulevard at De Garmo Avenue about two miles northeast of Whiteman Airport, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Bob Collis.
The pilot, who identified himself as Russ McNees of Sun Valley, aborted his flight because of electrical trouble, said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Jerry Acosta.
The reason for those problems is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board. Last week, a twin-engine charter plane en route to Van Nuys Airport landed on Hayvenhurst Avenue, clipping two school buses carrying 46 children but causing only two minor injuries. Preliminary reports from that June 23 incident noted that the plane was low on fuel.
