Macy Strikes an Unexpected Chord

Wait a minute. We thought acoustic pop songstress Lisa Loeb (1) was supposed to be providing the musical entertainment at a recent fund-raising gala hosted by Anthony Kennedy Shriver, founder of the nonprofit Best Buddies organization. Apparently, William H. Macy (2) was also up to the task--he picked up a ukulele and hit the stage for an impromptu performance of “Over the Rainbow.”

Also at the event, which raised money for the mentally disabled, were Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Angie Everhart (3), more than pretty in pink, Fred Savage (4), Laura San Giacomo (4), Chris O’Donnell, Paul Reiser, Gina Gershon and, of course, Maria Shriver.

Well, What Do You Know?: After a quip about not being able to land a spot on “The Tonight Show,” comedian Greg Fitzsimmons was surprised to learn that Jay Leno was actually in the audience, seated at the back of Hollywood’s Laugh Factory during a benefit for the Gerry “Red” Wilson Foundation. Leno later offered Fitzsimmons a spot on his program.

Looks Like a Winner: It was runway to reality in reverse at last week’s L.A. Looks model contest. Sixteen-year-old Brigitte Swidrak (6, second from left), from Oak Ridge, N.J., walked away with $100,000 and a two-year modeling contract after mailing in an application. Thomas Magiar (5) (“USA High”) and 1997 L.A. Looks model contest winner Cristalle Wasche (5) co-hosted this year’s competition. MTV’s Jason Winer (6, right) was a judge.

Teen Scene: What do models Kathy Ireland and Cheryl Tiegs, perfect “10” Bo Derek and Charlie’s Angel Cheryl Ladd have in common? They modeled for Teen magazine before making names for themselves. Teen teamed up with Maybelline for its 18th annual model search at Hollywood’s Key Club recently, where the Moffatts (7) performed. Former New Kid on the Block Jordan Knight (8) was among the judges. Taryn Cox (9, left), 15, of Huntington Beach, was first runner-up in the competition. Teen editor Tommi Lewis (9, center) presented the awards to Cox and winner Mariah Hothan (9, right) of Santa Fe.
