A 17-year-old Ventura boy remained in the hospital Friday after undergoing surgery for several stab wounds received in a fight at a local park, police said.

The teenager was stabbed four times in the stomach during a confrontation at Barranca Vista Park in the 6900 block of Ralston Street in east Ventura.

Two teenagers approached the boy and his friends and exchanged words with them about 4:30 p.m. Thursday. One of the two who approached was carrying a knife and a stick, witnesses told police.

After the stabbing, the assailants ran off. No one had been arrested in the incident as of Friday evening.

The attackers and the victim apparently knew each other, Ventura Police Det. Pat Stevens said.

The victim, whose name authorities declined to release, was in stable condition Friday at Ventura County Medical Center, Stevens said.

The Ventura Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team, which deals with gang-related crime, is investigating the stabbing.
