Actor Jack Nicholson collided with another driver on Mulholland Drive around midnight Thursday in an accident police described as “kind of like a head-on.”

Both cars were towed from the scene, but no one was seriously injured, said Officer Jason Lee of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Nicholson and an unidentified female passenger were heading northbound on Coldwater Canyon Avenue in his 1999 Mercedes-Benz when he attempted to turn left onto Mulholland and crashed into a southbound ’99 BMW.

The BMW was driven by 24-year-old Attila Hegedus, who also had a female passenger, authorities said.

Lee said the Oscar-winning actor and his companion suffered minor injuries. They were treated at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department personnel, police said.

“There was no DUI, no criminal negligence, no arrests and no citations,” Lee said. “Basically, it was a simple accident.”

That differs from a 1994 traffic dispute in which Nicholson was charged with misdemeanor vandalism and assault for allegedly smashing the windshield of a Mercedes-Benz with a golf club in North Hollywood. The case was later settled.
