2 Brush Fires in County Leave 13 Acres Charred
Two brush fires in Ventura County blackened a total of 13 acres of grass and light brush Saturday, fire authorities said.
The larger blaze started shortly before noon near Holiday Campground in Los Padres National Forest, four miles north of Ojai off California 33, said Maeton Freel, a spokesman for the U.S. Forest Service.
Twelve acres burned before the fire was contained about 4 p.m. Several people were evacuated from the campground but were allowed to return after the fire was doused, Freel said.
At its peak, 180 federal and county firefighters and seven aircraft were fighting the forest fire, Freel said. The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
A one-acre brush fire burned for an hour in the 8500 block of Ocean View Road in La Conchita north of Ventura. The fire started shortly after 2 p.m. The cause was under investigation.
