Media One Settles Dispute, Will Televise Dodgers Again
A dispute that took Dodger telecasts off Fox Sports West 2 in cable television households in the Los Angeles area served by Media One has been settled.
After negotiations that began Friday and continued through the weekend, an accord was reached.
The dispute also threatened to take Angel telecasts off Fox Sports West in Media One homes beginning Aug. 3, but that has also been settled.
“We’re happy to have this resolved,” said Fox Sports West spokesman Steve Webster. “It now appears every major cable operator will be on board when Dodger telecasts resume on Fox Sports West 2 next Monday.”
Webster said the only deal that has not been completed is with Charter, which also owns Marcus Cable. But he said that should be resolved sometime this week.
Gisselle Acevedo-Franco, director of corporate communications for Media One, said, “We were driven by a real desire to satisfy our customers, although we did not get that many [complaint] calls.”
She said there were about 300. “When you consider we have 500,000 subscribers, that is not a lot,” she said.
Acevedo-Franco said there was give and take on both sides. “We came out of this with our heads held high,” she said. “We did not sell out, and there will be no rate increase directly related to this issue.”
