200 Evacuated After Suspicious Packages Found

Share

More than 200 people were evacuated from the Police Department and the World Trade Center after reports of two mysterious packages outside the Ocean Boulevard buildings, police said.

Neither package contained explosives, although police said they were concerned because the packages were heavily taped, carried excessive postage and lacked return addresses.

The first package, about the size of a cassette tape, was found in the front lobby of the Police Department at 10:30 a.m. The second package was the size of a shoe box and was found in the World Trade Center’s mail room at 11:30 a.m.

The first and second floors of the Police Department were evacuated while the package was examined by Los Angeles Police Department bomb experts. A voluntary evacuation was sounded at the trade center.
