The City Council has authorized the money for an aide to help police with their criminal investigations. The new aide is meant to free up officers’ time for patrolling streets. “It’s what we wanted. We are really looking forward to it,” said Capt. Ed Ethell, adding that he hopes to have the position filled by mid-August.
Officials also budgeted money for a reorganization of the command structure of the Police Department, replacing an existing lieutenant position with that of a captain.
