With the recent acquisition of six customized mountain bikes, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s bike patrol team will expand its patrol, undercover and public relations duties. The team will now regularly patrol the city’s parks, creek beds, shopping centers and school campuses, and will also increase its nighttime patrols of bar parking lots. The team also gives safety seminars at schools. A sheriff’s representative said the team’s presence on campuses discourages drug use and makes it easier for students to approach officers.
