BREA
The city has two weeks to name a successor before Fire Chief William Simpkins retires Aug. 6.
City officials have not made a choice for the new chief, although they have narrowed it down to four candidates, Simpkins said.
Simpkins, who has been with the Brea Fire Department for 10 years, was named fire chief in 1993. He also spent 20 years fighting fires for the city of Orange.
The city will bid farewell to Simpkins with a dinner on Aug. 16. The event starts at 6 p.m. at the Brea Civic & Cultural Center, 1 Civic Center Circle. For more information, call Anna Cave at (714) 990-7622.
