More than 50 downtown Ventura businesses will keep their doors open Saturday between 1 and 10 p.m. for ArtWalk, a display of paintings, pottery and other works by 54 local artists.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun, and people will get a chance to have a taste of art and culture and get to know the business owners,” said Michelle Glass, a spokeswoman for the city’s Cultural Affairs Division.

There will be two stages set up on Santa Clara and Palm streets, where performers will demonstrate South American and African dances. There will also be live music, including mariachis and strolling ukulele players.

There will be tastings at several downtown coffeehouses, poetry readings, a kinetic sculpture race and a sand castle-building competition on the beach at the end of California Street.

Free shuttles to the businesses can be caught at several points, including at the Senior Recreation Center at Oak and Santa Clara streets.

ArtWalk is held three times a year. For more information, call 658-4726.
