Marina and Ocean View high school freshmen will be part of a class-size reduction program test this fall. Classes will average about 18 students and will not exceed 22.

“We want to do some piloting this year before we decide to go to class-size reduction for all schools,” said Jerry White, the Huntington Beach Union High School District’s director of curriculum development. Freshman students will be tested before and after the program to monitor academic growth. About five or six teachers will have to be hired to accommodate the smaller classes, White said.
