Opponents of a Wal-Mart store moving into the neighborhood say they have enough signatures for a ballot initiative aimed at stopping the store from building on Talbert Avenue, said Marvin Josephson, who heads the grass-roots group, Crest View United. “We’re going for a special election, and we feel we’ve got enough [signatures] to meet that,” he said.

The group opposes the store planned for the closed Crest View school site because it believes the surrounding residential neighborhood would suffer from increased noise, traffic and pollution. The council in April gave Wal-Mart approval to build.
