Students interested in hands-on experience with the government can apply for unpaid internships at the district office of Assemblyman Bob Hertzberg (D-Sherman Oaks).

Internships are open to all high school and college students interested in government and public policy, said Eddie Shiomi, a spokesman for Hertzberg. More than a dozen interns will be selected to work on various assignments, including community outreach and public relations projects.

The application deadline is June 15.

“Interns will will see what it’s like to be a politician and do grass-roots district work,” Shiomi said. “It’s a great opportunity and we really keep them busy.”

Interns will also participate in the new Summer Leadership Institute organized by Hertzberg’s staff. The institute will have seminars on major state and local issues, including transportation, public safety and health care.

Interns do not have to live in Hertzberg’s 40th Assembly District. Applications for the internships can be picked up at Hertzberg’s office, 6150 Van Nuys Blvd., Suite 305, in Van Nuys. For more information, call (818) 904-3840.
