A 12-Step Style Program

Share

Every home needs a high-heeled room, says Marian McEvoy, editor in chief of Elle Decor, who will share her “12 Steps to Style” during the second annual “Antique & Garden Show,” June 11 to 13 in San Juan Capistrano. “Every woman wants a room you can’t walk into with flip-flops.”

C’mon, even in California?

“Absolutely. Life is not one big barbecue,” says the style maven, who, though born in California, moved to New York via France.

McEvoy, who will speak June 12 at 1 p.m., joins a handful of guests who will lecture on everything from garden ornamentation to living in style with dogs. Sixty dealers will be there for those who would rather shop than study.

If you think your home is too new to comfortably house antiques, think again. “Moving antiques out of the Old World into the New World is what is happening, not just in California, but all over the country,” says McEvoy. In fact, mixing pieces is not only hip but also far more satisfying (albeit harder to achieve) than a room of the same style and period.

The show will be held at the Decorative Arts Villa, 31431 Camino Capistrano. Proceeds from the $15 admission and the lectures ($10 each) benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Canine Companions for Independence and the Boys & Girls Club of Capistrano Valley.
