Terese Lynn Coates, a resident of Ventura County for most of her life, died Tuesday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard from a sudden illness. She was 38.

Coates, who was born in Colorado on Sept. 24, 1960, was a graduate of Oxnard High School and L. A. Broadcasting School in Los Angeles.

She was known as “Charli” to business associates and friends because she claimed that “you never forget a girl named Charli,” said her husband, David Coates.

She worked in radio doing voice-overs. She also helped her husband in his business as a glazier and wrote computer software.

“She became deep friends with people almost immediately,” her husband said. “Going to the video store, all of a sudden she was best friends with the owner.”

She died of a brain aneurysm, her husband said. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Rhiannon, Kirin and Kyle.

The service will be private. James A. Reardon Mortuary in Oxnard is handling the arrangements.
