Four men and three male teenagers were arrested Thursday in connection with a confrontation in which a 16-year-old was shot in the leg, police said.

The injured teen was treated at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard and released after the 1:30 p.m. incident, Port Hueneme Police Cmdr. Jerry Beck said.

The incident occurred in the 1600 block of North 7th Street. Beck said the shooting was the apparent result of a rivalry between members of two tagging crews.

After the shooting, seven people sped away in two cars, police said. Detectives who were in the area on other business pulled the vehicles over, police said.

A gun was recovered from one of the cars, Beck said.

Arrested were Oxnard residents Jose Rodriguez, 21, and Julio Torres, Miguel Jimenez and John Cerda, who are all 18.

Two 16-year-old boys from Oxnard and a 15-year-old boy from Port Hueneme were also arrested.

The suspects were in custody and being questioned by police late Thursday but had not yet been booked into County Jail and juvenile hall.
