Registrants for the upcoming six-week summer session at the North Valley Occupational Center will have more than training options when classes begin July 6.

A career assessment center, with employment and post-graduate options available on the Internet, will begin operation the same day.

Among the more than 50 short-term courses offered will be classes in business and computers, automotive repair, child care and health trades.

Unique to its curriculum, said Principal Donald Gaskin, is its Federal Aviation Administration-approved air frame and power plant mechanics classes for both adults and high school students.

The center, which is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, has counselors on hand six days a week to assist those seeking new careers or training upgrade, Gaskin said.

Registration for classes begins at 8 a.m. Tuesday. Counselors are available by phone or in person from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.

The North Valley Occupational Center, 11450 Sharp Ave., Mission Hills, can be reached by calling (818) 365-9645.
