Attracting more than 1 million visitors each year, the Del Mar Fair is San Diego County’s largest annual special event. This year’s festivities will take place daily through July 5. The fair offers exhibits, demonstrations, thrill rides, contests, farm animal displays and live entertainment. Wayne Newton, Wynonna (who appears tonight), Gladys Knight and Sixpence None the Richer are among the musical artists scheduled to perform during the course of this nearly three-week event.

Mickey Rooney stars in the title role and Jo Anne Worley is the Wicked Witch of the West in the Southern California premiere of Radio City Entertainment’s production of “The Wizard of Oz,” adapted from the 1939 MGM classic.

If the wrinkles in your father-son relationship would fill a “Jerry Springer Show,” maybe you can iron things out at the Fathers and Sons Just for Us Workshop at the Skirball Cultural Center. Just for Us leaders Carole Isenberg and Madeline Sharples use storytelling, humor and discussions to nurture communication and strengthen family ties. This is the second such workshop; the Skirball offered one before Mother’s Day as well.
