Nibbles and Bits

* Laguna Playhouse will record an original cast album of its production of the Craig Bohmler and Marion Adler musical “Gunmetal Blues” during performances Thursday through Sunday at the Moulton Theater in Laguna Beach. The comedy homage to film-noir detective stories features Andrew Barnicle, Tracy Lore and Jeffrey Rockwell in the story of a has-been piano player, a down-on-his-luck gumshoe and a troublesome blond bombshell in a murder mystery musical in the style of Raymond Chandler. * The William Hall Master Chorale will open its 1999-2000 season with a program of “Twentieth Century Romantics” on Oct. 24 in Newport Beach.

The program will include Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Mass in G minor and Maurice Durufle’s Requiem. Soloists will include mezzo-soprano Debbie Cree-Smith and baritone Robin Buck. Ladd Thomas will play the organ.

The performance will begin at 4 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 600 St. Andrews Road, Newport Beach.

The season will continue Dec. 12 with a holiday program at 7:30 p.m. at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa.

It will be followed in the new year by “Voices of the Millennium” on March 26 at 4 p.m. at St. Andrew’s, and a Broadway program with Carol Burnett and Frederica von Stade on June 16 and 17 at 8 p.m. at the Costa Mesa center.
