Cincinnati pitcher Ron Villone, told by Manager Jack McKeon Wednesday night that he was going to pitch Thursday, didn’t give up a hit until Tony Eusebio singled with one out in the seventh inning as the Reds beat the Astros, 3-0, on a combined one-hitter at Houston.

“It’s the same if I get five days’ notice or one hour’s notice,” Villone said.

Villone (2-2) retired only one batter Saturday against the Milwaukee Brewers, giving up six earned runs and three hits.

“I didn’t have too much time to think about it, but I just want the ball,” he said.

This time, Villone pitched seven innings, walking five and striking out six. Danny Graves pitched the final two innings for his 10th save in 13 chances.
