Gerrit Cromsigt waited and waited, before finally making his move on lap 24. Cromsigt passed race leader James Weston in turn two to win the NASCAR Late Model race before 2,493 at Irwindale Speedway on day night.
Cromsigt, from Pine Mountain Club, moves into a tie for the points lead with Simi Valley’s Dusty McDonald, who finished second in the race. Each has 372 points. Weston, from Goleta, finished third and trails the leaders by 32 points.
Rod Johnson took the lead on the third lap restart, pulling away from his nearest competitor Rip Michels as he won the 30-lap NASCAR Grand Am Modifieds race.
