Trainer Bobby Frankel, who was at Woodbine race track in Toronto on Sunday to saddle Euchre in the $500,000 Queen’s Plate, had a message relayed to jockey Chris McCarron at Hollywood Park about one of his other horses.

“He sent word to ride Mazel Trick with confidence, that he had been training well,” McCarron said.

Mazel Trick, making his first start since winning the Lazaro Barrera Handicap at Hollywood Park on Nov. 14, was given a confident ride by McCarron and easily defeated seven rivals in the $300,000 Triple Bend Breeders’ Cup Invitational Handicap.

Mazel Trick, a lightly-raced son of Phone Trick, won by five lengths and ran the seven furlongs in 1:19 4/5, smashing the track record of 1:20 2/5 originally set by Memo on July 2, 1994 and equaled by three others. He was only two-fifths off the world record of held by Rich Cream and Time To Explode.

Said McCarron: “I knew we were rolling, but I didn’t know it was a track record.”

Christmas Boy, a 20-1 shot who hadn’t run since Oct. 9, was second, four lengths clear of Regal Thunder, the 11-10 favorite.

Enjoy The Moment, an 8-1 shot, made it eight victories in 11 starts at Southern California tracks when she led every step of the way to win the $200,000 A Gleam Handicap.

Enjoy The Moment, a California-bred ridden by David Flores and trained Bill Spawr, beat Snowberg by a length in 1:21 1/5 for the seven furlongs. The winner had finished sixth in both of her starts outside of Southern California.

A.P. Assay, the 1-2 favorite who was coupled in the betting with Snowberg, was virtually eased by jockey Eddie Delahoussaye through the stretch, apparently uncomfortable on a track over which she had previously been unbeaten in four starts.

Love That Jazz, a 6-1 shot who had won three of four at Hollywood Park, was also eased through the stretch by Kent Desormeaux.

Emile Ramsammy, the fourth-leading rider at Hollywood Park, suffered a broken right collarbone in a race that followed the Queen’s Plate at Woodbine when a mount he picked up from another jockey broke down.

Ramsammy had ridden Euchre to a third-place finish in the Queen’s Plate, which was won by Woodcarver.
