A woman driving the wrong way on the Santa Ana Freeway was killed in a head-on collision with a minivan, the California Highway Patrol said Monday.
Irene Vasquez Ramos, 59, of Orange was pronounced dead at the scene of the Santa Ana accident, which occurred late Sunday. A coroner’s report Monday indicated that she died from the impact.
A passenger in the minivan, Steven Michas, 17, of Huntington Beach, suffered minor injuries. He was treated at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana for stomach pain from his seat belt and released.
Robert Frederickson, the minivan’s driver, and another passenger, William Pena, both 17 and of Huntington Beach, refused treatment.
Ramos was driving south in the northbound lanes of the Santa Ana Freeway just south of 1st Street, police said, when she collided with the minivan at 9:21 p.m.
