Former El Dorado High catcher Drew McMillan has signed a contract with the Montreal Expos, his father, Brian McMillan, said Monday. He will receive a $450,000 signing bonus, of which $50,000 is to be used for college.

McMillan, 18, was the Expos’ third-round pick in the recent Major League Baseball draft. He was the first area player chosen and the 90th pick overall. He has reported to the Expos’ Jupiter, Fla., team in the Gulf Coast League.

McMillan, a two-time All-Empire League selection after transferring to El Dorado from Troy, was the league MVP in 1998. This season he batted .361 with four homers and 18 RBIs.

“I only had him two years, but I feel he was the best defensive catcher in the county, if not the state, this year,” El Dorado Coach Steve Gullotti said of McMillan. “He will be hard to replace.”
