Tolerance

I do believe that tolerance can be taught (Voices, Feb. 27). However, the success of it depends on the severity of hatred one possesses toward others. Tolerance should be taught starting in the home. Unfortunately, some are raised in environments where hatred of people who are different is acceptable. In such cases, the success must be measured over a long period of time.

I commend the Museum of Tolerance on its efforts to bring awareness and tolerance to all of Southern California. In today’s society, hate crimes are apparent, but I believe that offenders can be taught to tolerate and appreciate the differences of others. It simply takes a lot of patience, knowledge and support from the community.
