Plumbing Art’s Depths

I and the mechanical engineer I showed the article on the sensuality of a photographed commode (“Revisiting Weston at Artistic Crossroads,” by Christopher Knight, Feb. 19) were overwhelmed at the discernment shown in translating the most effective design for siphoning and bowl-wetting to Freudian imagery.

I suggest that several commercial plumbing catalogs of the era be scrutinized for other examples of carefully composed plumbing photos, sharply detailed by the 8-by-10 commercial format cameras and the black-and-white film in use at the time. For sensuality, give me Kohler and Peerless any time!
