Bacani Pushes Titans Past Houston, 3-2

David Bacani’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth gave Cal State Fullerton a 3-2 baseball victory over Houston Friday at Fullerton.

Fullerton’s Ryan Owens hit a leadoff triple in the ninth with the score tied, 2-2. Bacani’s winning hit came after two intentional walks.

Although Fullerton’s Adam Johnson pitched 8 1/3 innings with no earned runs and 12 strikeouts, he did not get a decision. Reliever Kirk Saarloos (1-2) earned the victory, retiring the two hitters he faced in the ninth for Fullerton (12-5).

Houston is 8-6.

Officials moved today’s start time from 7 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. because of the possibility of rain tonight.

In the Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball tournament semifinals:

Southern California College 67, Fresno Pacific 59 (OT)--Stacey Sedwick made two free throws for Fresno with seven seconds remaining in regulation to tie it, 54-54, and send the game into overtime.

Sara Herkenhoff scored six of her 21 points in overtime for SCC (25-8), which will host Azusa Pacific Monday in the tournament final. Rachel Fikse scored 16 points and Kelly Boeke had 13 for the Vanguards.

Teresa Kamps had 22 points and 21 rebounds for Fresno Pacific (17-14).

Azusa Pacific 72, Concordia 65--Sophomore center Jennifer Barbone scored 19 of her 21 points in the second half for host Azusa Pacific (24-7). Concordia (17-12) led by eight points at halftime.

Jamie Gast had 27 points for the Eagles.

At the Cal State Fullerton Easton Showcase softball tournament:

Fullerton wins twice--Titan shortstop Stacey Pierson hit a two-run home run to provide the margin of victory in a 3-2 win over Illinois State. Jana Oetgen struck out eight and gave up five hits for the Titans (9-5).

Fullerton’s Stephanie Little hit a home run in an 8-0, five-inning victory over Portland State.
