Concrete Strikes Cars on Freeway; Three Teens Jailed
Anaheim police arrested three male teens early Saturday on suspicion of throwing chunks of concrete from an overpass that hit about 10 vehicles on the Santa Ana Freeway.
The teens were skateboarding over the Lincoln Avenue overpass about 1:15 a.m. when the incidents occurred, causing “significant damage” to the vehicles, Anaheim Police Sgt. Chuck Craig said. Officers were alerted by a flurry of calls to police, Craig said.
Police took the teens to Orange County Juvenile Hall, where they are being held on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon. The names of the suspects were not released because they are minors.
Apparently none of the drivers was hurt and damage estimates to the vehicles were not available, although one vehicle had its windshield broken out, police said.
Craig said the concrete chunks came from debris that are lying on both sides of the freeway because of an ongoing widening project.
“It was all right there and not very difficult for them to get their hands on,” he said.
