MISSION VIEJO
The City Council tonight will decide whether to take another step toward annexing Ladera and Las Flores. City Manager Dan Joseph said he is recommending the council step up discussions with Orange County officials about what kind of tax-sharing agreement could be worked out. A preliminary study showed that annexing Ladera would be a positive cash flow, but Las Flores would not. But Joseph said there are benefits to annexation other than financial, such as having some control over development.
Brad Morton, president of the Committee for Integrity in Government, said his group will be concerned about the financial impact to the city and the potential for unfavorable projects--such as a county courthouse or jail--to be located in Ladera or Las Flores.
The council meets at 6 p.m. in chambers, 25909 Pala.
