Couple Held in Teen’s Stabbing at Theme Park

A Duarte man and his girlfriend were in custody Monday for their part in the near-fatal stabbing of a teenage boy who cut in front of them in line at Six Flags Magic Mountain, authorities said.

The 17-year-old had cut into the line for “Batman: The Ride” about 7:30 p.m. Sunday to catch up with his friends, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Tim Peters.

That angered Jessie Olivas, 33, and his girlfriend, Yesinia Segura, 23, who began exchanging words with the Victorville youth, Peters said.

With his girlfriend egging him on, Olivas got into a fight with the youth, Peters said. Most witnesses were unaware, he added, that Olivas was armed with a small “box cutter” knife.

“Not even the kid knew he was getting cut,” Peters said. “But when he got up, he was bleeding all over the place.”

The teen suffered cuts to his face, chest, arms and stomach, Peters said.

“He’s lucky to have made it,” Peters said. “Some of those cuts came very close to major arteries.”

The victim was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Medical Center, where officials declined to disclose his condition.

Peters said the weapon was found later on Segura.

Both Olivas and Segura were being held at the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station jail on suspicion of attempted murder. Bail was set at $500,000.

The incident comes five months after Magic Mountain placed metal detectors at each of the 20 entrances to the theme park and at the adjacent Hurricane Harbor park.
