Major Cleanup Effort Begins in Hollywood

An urban cleaning and maintenance company has won a $420,000 contract and begun cleaning up along Hollywood Boulevard’s historic district, a revitalization group said.

Workers for California Street Maintenance have began sweeping sidewalks and washing the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Workers will polish Walk of Fame brass stars once a month and remove graffiti along an 18-block stretch as part of a Hollywood revitalization project, said Kerry Morrison, director of the Hollywood Entertainment District, a private group made up of property owners.

“We’re trying to re-create a visible district . . . a safer, cleaner place to be,” Morrison said.

About 240 property owners from La Brea Avenue to Gower Street are being assessed $2.3 million annually to pay for security and maintenance, Morrison said.
