The deadline to register to vote in the city’s general election is Monday. The June 8 election will decide a representative in the City Council’s 7th District and fill seats on the Los Angeles Unified School District and Los Angeles Community College boards.

To be eligible to vote, residents must be at least 18 and U.S. citizens by election day. Registered voters who have moved or changed their names are required to re-register.

The deadline for obtaining absentee ballots is June 1. Forms can be obtained by mail from counters in any Los Angeles city public building, including libraries and fire stations, Department of Motor Vehicle offices and post office branches.

The last city runoff election, in 1995, attracted 14% of the electorate to the polls, election officials said.

“We would certainly like to see a lot more voters,” said Kristin Heffron of the city’s election division.
