In other meets:

Northwest Valley Conference preliminaries--Seniors Blaine Bussey of Taft and Tiffany Burgess of Birmingham had the most noteworthy performances at Birmingham.

Bussey, the defending City Section champion in the 400, clocked a career best of 46.9 to win his heat in that event and also ran 21.6 in his heat in the 200.

Bussey’s meet-record 400 effort was the fastest time in the state this year and moved him to third on the all-time region list behind Quincy Watts, who ran 46.67 for Taft in 1988, and Ron Williams, who clocked a converted time of 46.74 for Chatsworth in 1977.

Burgess, the defending City champion in the 800 and 1,600, posted the fastest times in those events with times of 2:17.8 and 5:10.5.

Pacific View League finals--Junior Lisa Wygant of Camarillo won four events to lead the host Scorpions to a 123-120 victory over runner-up Rio Mesa.

Wygant won the 100 high hurdles in 15.82, the 300 lows in 47.51, the high jump in 5-2 and the triple jump in 34-2 to score 32 points.

Sophomore Porchea Carroll of Rio Mesa, defending Southern Section Division II champion in the 100 and 200, won the 100 in 11.84, the 200 in 24.74, the long jump in 18-7 and ran the first leg on the winning 400 relay team that clocked 49.31.

Rio Mesa defeated Camarillo, 90-85, in the boys’ meet.

John Coleman of Rio Mesa won the 100 in a career best of 10.91 and the 200 in a career best of 22.33, and teammate Mike Dickran won the 800 in 1:59.44.

Senior Greg Brown of Camarillo won the 110 high hurdles in 15.12 and the 300 intermediates in 41.47.

Channel League finals--Josh Spiker won the 1,600 in 4:12.19 and the 3,200 in 9:22.83 to help Ventura dominate the boys’ meet at Santa Barbara City College.

Chris Foster of Ventura won the 110 high hurdles in 15.45 and the 300 intermediates in 41.08, and teammate Preston Biller won the long jump at 19-11 3/4 and triple jump at 41-7.

Frontier League finals--Chris Thomas of Nordhoff won the 110 high hurdles in 15.3 and the 300 intermediates in 40.1 at Nordhoff.
