Oborn Drives in 8 as Titans Clinch Title

Spencer Oborn had two home runs and two doubles and drove in eight runs to highlight Cal State Fullerton’s 24-hit attack in a 21-2 victory over New Mexico State in a Big West Conference baseball game Sunday in Las Cruces, N.M.

The victory clinched the Big West championship outright for Fullerton (43-9, 24-3 in conference), which will receive the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA playoffs.

New Mexico State is 17-36, 6-21.

Oborn has seven home runs, two triples and two doubles in his last four games and has 14 home runs this season.

Teammate Ryan Owens hit his 15th home run Sunday.

Reed Johnson had four hits and five runs scored, David Bacani had four hits and four runs scored and Chris Beck had three RBIs for the Titans, who broke open the game by scoring four runs in seventh and seven in the eighth.

Winning pitcher Marco Hanlon (5-0) went eight innings and gave up six hits and one run with no walks and three strikeouts.

Fullerton hosts a three-game series with Long Beach State, Friday through Sunday, to finish the regular season.

In Big West Conference softball:

Cal State Fullerton 3, New Mexico State 2--Stephenie Little hit her 22nd home run, Nikki Hart had three hits and Yasmin Mossadeghi also homered for visiting Fullerton (34-24, 13-8). Winning pitcher Jana Oetgen improved to 20-8, throwing four shutout innings, and Christy Robitaille picked up her fifth save.
