Steve Melnik; County Resident for Half a Century

La Conchita resident Steve Melnik died Friday at a Santa Paula convalescent hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 80.

Melnik was born Dec. 29, 1918, in Grazer, Pa., and had been a Ventura County resident for 50 years.

He was a Rockwell International Corp. machinist for 22 years, retiring in 1979.

Melnik enjoyed traveling and fishing. He was a lifetime member of VFW Walter Chaffee Post No. 1679 in Ventura and the Disabled American Veterans, Ventura chapter No. 24.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia; a sister, Catherine Ryasko; and three brothers, Charles, Louis and John.

Melnik is survived by three brothers, Paul and Michael, both of Los Angeles, and Alexander of Lompoc; and two sisters, Marion Gerney of Canoga Park and Helen Genero of Palm Springs.

Arrangements are being handled by Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Ventura chapter No. 24.
