Lancaster Falls to Rancho Cucamonga

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes collected 10 hits and defeated the Lancaster JetHawks, 8-4, in a California League game Tuesday night at the Epicenter in Rancho Cucamonga.

The JetHawks, who had eight hits, dropped to 12-21.

Rancho Cucamonga improved to 16-16.

JetHawk third baseman Luis Figueroa was selected the California League’s batter of the week from May 3-9.

Figueroa had 16 hits in 28 at-bats for a .571 average in seven games. He had one home run, two doubles and five runs batted in.

Double A--Ryan Stromsborg (Notre Dame) hit a pinch-hit, three-run home run in the bottom of the 11th to lift Knoxville (Blue Jays) over Carolina, 5-2. . . . First baseman Jon Tucker (Chatsworth) hit a two-run home run, his third homer in three games, to help Harrisburg (Expos) past Trenton, 12-1. . . . Bowie (Orioles) right-hander Josh Towers (Hueneme, Oxnard College) gave up two runs over six innings and struck out four, but didn’t have a decision in the Baysox’s 4-2 loss to Erie.

Class A--Designated hitter Mike Glendenning (Crespi, Pierce) belted two home runs and had three runs batted in for San Jose (Giants). He is second in the California League with 10 home runs. . . . Brendon Cowsill (Crescenta Valley) improved to 2-2 with Lake Elsinore (Angels) after six hits and one earned run over eight innings in a 7-4 victory over High Desert. . . .
