A student and a teacher at Pacific Palisades High School were wounded in a drive-by shooting Monday afternoon in front of the school, authorities said.

An 18-year-old student was shot in the thigh and the teacher, who is in his 50s, was shot in the calf. They were taken to Santa Monica Medical Center for treatment.

“The teacher was hit by a ricocheting bullet and was grazed,” said Hilda Ramirez, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Unified School District. “Both are going to be OK.”

The shooting occurred at 2:30 p.m., in the 15700 block of Bowdoin Street, said Police Sgt. Willie Guerrero.

A school district patrol officer heard the shooting and followed the suspects, he said. Los Angeles and Santa Monica police provided backup in the pursuit.

Four suspects in the car were arrested near the intersection of the San Diego and Santa Monica freeways, and a weapon was recovered, Ramirez said.

Neither the name of the suspects nor those of the wounded student and teacher were released.

“One of those apprehended was a student” at Pacific Palisades, Ramirez said. “We’re now trying to determine if the other three were students.”
