Police were searching Tuesday for two men wanted for questioning in the shooting death of aman in an apartment building.

A 27-year-old man, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, was shot several times about 11:10 p.m. Monday at an apartment in the 20400 block of Sherman Way, Los Angeles police officials said.

The victim did not live in the complex, according to the apartment building manager.

Apartment house residents Sandro Bermet, 25, and Jamil Al-Jally, 22, were allegedly seen fleeing after the shooting, police said.

Neighbors told detectives they heard an argument in the apartment shortly before the shooting.

One woman, who asked not to be identified, said she rushed out of her apartment and saw a group of five or six people coming out of the unit where the shooting occurred.

She said the group gathered outside and briefly talked before returning to the apartment for a short time.

“Then I saw them come out again,” she said. “It was weird. They came out single file, walked down the stairs in single file to the courtyard and then they all ran off in different directions.”

Apartment house residents said they have frequently complained to police about suspected drug activity in the unit where the shooting occurred.

“I feel like the police should have done something about that apartment unit before this happened,” said one woman, who also did not wish to be identified because she fears gang retaliation. “I called and told them and said there were young kids going in the apartment and getting involved in drug trafficking. The police say they were monitoring the apartment, but I don’t feel they really did much. Now, unfortunately, it’s too late. Someone’s dead.”
