73 Area Construction Projects Get Permits

The City Council on Wednesday gave the go-ahead to permits for three new San Fernando Valley construction projects.

The council approved a measure exempting the Marvin Braude Constituent Service Center--planned for Van Nuys Boulevard and Sylvan Street--from a 15-foot building-line setback requirement in effect since the 1950s.

The center, named for one of the city’s longest-serving council members, is scheduled for completion within two years and will house on one site many of the departments now scattered through the Van Nuys area, said Rosalind Stewart, spokesperson for the district council office.

In a separate motion, the council approved zoning changes to permit construction of 45 condominiums in seven two-story buildings at 18930-18946 Sherman Way, in Reseda.

The builder is required to provide a 24-hour hotline phone number for construction-related complaints from the community. The number will be given to immediate neighbors of the project, local neighborhood associations and Leichman High School administrators. Hotline complaints must receive a response within 24 hours of receipt.

The council also approved permits for Civitech Inc. for construction of four single-family residences at 5651 Tampa Ave.
