FRESHWATER

SILVERWOOD LAKE--Good action overall, with catfish, crappie, trout and bass all showing in good numbers.

BIG BEAR LAKE--Continued very good trout action. Mike Hunt, Chino, caught a 9.4-pounder off Gilner Point with Power Bait. Chris Hazen, Glendora, landed a 7.3-pounder. Still fishing with Power Bait has been the best bet this week; trollers working small Rapalas and Rebels, Needlefish or Kastmasters are also scoring.

LAKE PERRIS--Unbelievable trout action. Joe Tamulonis, 83, Banning, caught a 6.6-pound rainbow trout to set a lake record mark for rainbows. He caught the trout on a modified No. 3 Needlefish lure in 70 feet of water off the dam in the Sail Cove area on Monday. The trout are feeding on shad and lures that imitate the shad are getting the fish. There is also very good action on bluegill.

CORONA LAKE--The trout and catfish bites remain good after plants of both species last week, and trophy fish continue to be caught. Top rainbow was a 12.1-pounder landed by Jose Marquez, Bloomington. For the handful of anglers fishing for crappie, they are finding very good action behind the bait shop and in the trees on small jigs.

LAKE SKINNER--The warm weather really started to turn on the catfish action here in the east end and dam areas on cut baits. The action on smaller largemouths has been pretty good too, mostly on crawdads, nightcrawlers or plastics at Ramp No. 2 and all the south shoreline points. Trout very slow.

SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES--The action on trout and catfish is still very good, and many anglers are getting mixed limits. The best trout caught this week was an 11.5-pounder caught by Derek Schiller, Norco, fishing at the boat dock with orange twist Power Bait. The Memorial Day weekend catfish opener gala runs through Sunday, with tons of three- to five-pound catfish planted. There will also be a huge number of the super cats from 10 to 20 pounds or more stocked.

IRVINE LAKE--Good carp action and a consistent bite on rainbow trout, crappie, and catfish. Top carp was a 21.4-pounder landed by Joe Nguyen, Santa Ana, on corn meal balls. Top trout was a 12.75-pounder caught by David Feske, Canoga Park. Night fishing begins Saturday. The catfish season opener is June 18. The lake will be closed June 4 for Kawasaki Motors demo days.

OSO RESERVOIR--The bass bite continues good to excellent on small plastics fished on darter head jigs at the dam or fly rod-tossed poppers fished along the weedy shoreline. Top bass this week was an 8-4 caught by Jim Baker, West Covina, trolling a Castaic Soft Bait gizzard shad.

CACHUMA LAKE--Trout, bass and red ear action are all good. The trout are moving deeper with the best bites in Cachuma Bay and out toward the dam. Trollers are finding the fish with Needlefish pulled behind 1 1/2 to four colors of leadcore line. The bass are showing on most of the flats on plastics and spinnerbaits with a lot of fish up to 4-0 being caught.

LAKE CASITAS--The bass bite has been very good, but the fish have been mostly smaller, under 4-0. Trout action has continued good for trollers and those fishing the live shad.

CASTAIC LAKE--The largemouth bass bite is very good on live shad or split-shotted nightcrawlers or small plastics. Micha Torgerson, Castaic, landed nine bass to 4-0 on crawdads and plastics. The striper bite has turned with the warm weather.

LAKE PIRU--The bass action has been good. Most fish are under 3-0. The trout action has been fair. The east side of the lake and at the dam are the best trolling areas.

SAN DIEGO CITY LAKES--Hodges: Overall good action, with the bass, bluegill and catfish all providing good action. Top bass was an 11.15-pounder caught by James Odom, San Diego, on a nightcrawler. El Capitan: Continued good bass and bluegill action here. Lower Otay: Excellent bluegill action with over 8,300 bluegill reported by anglers in the past week. The bass, crappie, and catfish bite are fair, but the bluegill frenzy is overshadowing everything else.

BRIDGEPORT AREA--Upper and Lower Twin and Bridgeport Reservoir all remain good for trout. Sam Myngaarden, Silverado, caught an 8-2 rainbow. In Bridgeport Reservoir, limits of five fish often weighing from 10 to 14 pounds total are common.

JUNE LAKE AREA--Good action in all of the loop lakes with trollers and bait fisherman scoring on pan-sized trout. Best bite has been in the morning. The inlet to Grant has been a hot spot. Rush Creek is good between Silver and Grant, and the stretch below Grant Lake has been good for fly anglers.

MAMMOTH AREA--Crowley remains good. Trollers, shore anglers fishing floating baits, and fly-fishermen are all scoring. McGee Bay seems to be the best spot. Owens River is good below Benton Crossing, fair above. Convict Lake is good. Hot Creek is very good. Twin Lakes mostly open, pretty good fishing.

BISHOP AREA--Bishop Creek and Intake II are good but the bite is mostly on bait. Lake Sabrina is fair to good. South Lake still has some ice but it should be clear soon. Pleasant Valley Reservoir is fair. The lower Owens River is fair and flows are still up. The Owens Gorge remains good for anglers fly-fishing smaller nymphs or emergers.

SANTA BARBARA (Sea Landing)--21 anglers (2 boats): 28 calico bass, 1 sand bass, 1 halibut, 1 cabezon, 2 sculpin, 12 mackerel, 13 rockfish, 3 sheephead, 8 ray, 1 yellowfin croaker, 40 perch.

PORT HUENEME--17 anglers (1 boat): 63 barracuda, 1 halibut, 1 calico bass, 1 whitefish.

MARINA DEL REY--104 anglers (4 boats): 750 barracuda, 80 sand bass, 8 halibut, 10 rockfish.

REDONDO BEACH--53 anglers (3 boats): 296 barracuda, 3 halibut, 13 sand bass, 1 calico bass.

SAN PEDRO (L.A.
