A Northridge teenager was killed and three other people were seriously injured Saturday in a crash near Los Angeles International Airport, authorities said.

Robert St. George, 17, was a passenger in a Ford Mustang that was sliced in two in a chain-reaction collision in the 9600 block of South Sepulveda Boulevard, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident took place at 2:10 a.m., when a Mazda traveling north on Sepulveda apparently suffered mechanical problems and rear-ended a van, said Los Angeles police Officer Mike Partain.

The van then crossed into the southbound lane of Sepulveda, striking the Mustang. The three other injured people also were riding in the Mustang and were taken to local hospitals. The drivers of the van and the Mazda were not seriously hurt, Partain said.

Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call the LAPD.
