When Loren Cerny of Camarillo rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns in 28 carries in a 22-17 victory over San Marcos on Friday, he became the sixth Scorpion running back this decade to gain more than 1,000 yards in a season.

Cerny, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound junior, has gained 1,068 yards in 169 carries and scored 14 touchdowns this year.

The other Camarillo players to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season this decade are Corey Tucker, who gained 1,039 in 1990; Fahali Campbell, 1,013 in 1991 and 2,285 in 1992; Robert Smith, 1,130 in 1993; Roth Valencia, 1,153 in 1994; and John Howe, 1,042 in 1996 and 1,234 in 1997.

Cerny has rushed for 111 or more yards in seven of eight games.

His high was a 178-yard effort against Thousand Oaks and his low was a 90-yard performance against Buena.

The Camarillo defense, shredded for 37.2 points and 388.8 yards a game in the first five weeks of the season, turned in another solid performance against San Marcos, giving up 237 yards.

The Scorpions (3-4-1, 2-0 in Pacific View League play) have allowed an average of 16.7 points and 203.3 yards in the last three games, all victories.
