A Nickname Never Fit Anyone More Than Payton

I grew up my whole life in Los Angeles, but Walter Payton is my favorite football player. He did not have any particular physical advantage, but he had the greatest heart and will of any player I saw in my lifetime.

I will remember Sweetness blocking a linebacker, outrunning defenders, passing for touchdowns, and catching passes, but I’ll remember him best for taking defenders head on and never stopping his legs from moving. Those closer to him will remember a man with a good heart, good values and the best work habits of those around him. Let us remember Walter Payton for his superhuman feats on the field, including the all-time record for rushing yards and single-game rushing record, but also for reminding us how precious life really is.
