Berg Will Sit for Another Game

Defenseman Aki Berg is going to get a street-clothes view of the Kings for a while.

Coach Andy Murray said Friday that Jaroslav Modry, who had been scratched for the season’s first 14 games before playing at Detroit, would stay in the lineup.

Modry is paired with Sean O’Donnell in even-strength situations and with Garry Galley on the No. 2 power-play unit.

Berg said he understands.

“I thought I was working hard, but I guess I wasn’t,” he said. “I’m going to have to play better, and to do that, I am going to have to work harder. There is no other way.”

Berg played last season in Finland, holding out after three seasons with the Kings, and he is back in the NHL with a one-year contract.

Winger Marko Tuomainen, who has missed seven games after being hit in the eye with a puck, returned to practice and said he is ready to play.

“I’d like to play [tonight] . . . but that’s up to the coaches, and I understand the team has played well without me,” he said.

The Kings are 5-1-1 since Tuomainen was sidelined, and they are unbeaten in their last six games.

He had been playing right wing on the third line, along with Ian Laperriere and Craig Johnson, and Brad Chartrand was elevated from the fourth line to take his place.

With Chartrand, the third line has continued to play well.

Tuomainen is wearing a doctor-mandated visor while practicing and will do so for about two more weeks.
